Yoga

What style of yoga do I teach?

Although I have a diverse background and can teach a range of different styles of yoga, as well as the philosophy and ethics of yoga, my teaching is most strongly influenced by the Jivamukti method. We usually start with chanting and a juicy warm-up, followed by a teaching, often from one of the central yogic texts. We then move into a fast-paced and upbeat asana practice set to a playlist thoughtfully curated for that particular class. There is almost always quiet, meditative time, either at the beginning or the end of each practice. Jivamukti is a physical, ethical, and spiritual practice, combining a vigorous asana practice with adherence to five central tenets of yoga: shastra (scripture), bhakti (devotion), ahimsā (nonviolence, non-harming), nāda (music), and dhyana (meditation). My teaching emphasizes compassionate political engagement with the world, specifically animal rights, veganism, environmentalism, and social activism. All are welcome in my classes. And may all be happy and free.
